Yoga, Sangeetha and Kiran, have worked under, the renowned Jean Francois Lesage (who hails from the celebrated Lesage family of embroiderers in Paris). The three designers and partners at THAMARAI are passionate about reviving the hand embroidery craft with modern and contemporary narratives.
Tell us a bit about yourself.
We are three partners, Sangeetha, Yoga and Kiran. Three different personalities united in our passion for this art of hand embroidery.
How do you describe your work to people who aren’t quite familiar with the kind of embroidery you create.
Our uniqueness is making an art piece that will give the home that final beautiful touch.
Your creative process.
Each piece is a new creation. It is designed based on the style of the establishment, picking on other elements of design in the surrounding space and also on the philosophy of the establishment.
Why is making important to you?
The existence of Thamarai lies in the amazing talent of our embroiderers. Their nimble fingers create beautiful, exquisite pieces of art. The exceptional inborn talent finds expression in the delicate, intrinsic, high quality embroidery.
What’s your most challenging work, so far?
Our most challenging work so far is a 9 metre wall panel that was hand painted and embroidered with a story of creation – This has taken us more than a year to make

We have done different styles of embroidered design and made some pieces with printed art.
What is currently inspiring you?
Contemporary design with an age old art form.

The three of us love this city. We travel, but are extremely happy to come back to namma Chennai.
