Tell us a bit about yourself.
I am Archana Avinash, Designer & Owner at Strings & Beads, a conscious lifestyle brand that marries crystal healing and gorgeous jewelry to help create balance and fulfillment in your everyday life. Being raised in a very Orthodox Tam-Bram Family I went on to finish my Grad & Post Grad in regular mainstream subjects. But my love for Fashion & Jewelry was something that I noticed since very young. With social pressure & many responsibilities I worked in the corporate for over 5+years, post which I decided to Quit and follow my passion in Jewelry. And thus was born “Strings & Beads” in Jan 2011 in the Middle East.
In the beginning it was regular artificial jewelry, slowly & steadily I moved to Silver & eventually a few years ago the shift to healing Jewelry happened very naturally.
How do you describe your work to people who aren’t quite aware about Healing & Crystal jewelry?
To begin with I work with Gemstones- Both Precious & Semi Precious. Gemstones have been used in every single civilisation in the world for its healing properties. I have been drawn to gemstones even while i was a child; a few years ago following the heights of my own personal journey with Healing Crystals, I began to read more and learn about Crystal Healing. And after proper certifications, I decided to start a line of “Healing Jewelry” under my own existing brand of Jewelry. I am often asked “If Crystals really heal?” and I tell my clients only one thing- Quantum physics has proven that everything in the universe is vibration. You may be familiar with the healing powers of our plant kingdom- many herbs have been used for centuries for their various healing powers. Nature has endowed various properties to different plants that can help us heal ourselves and bring ourselves back into balance. Just as the plant kingdom has been endowed with powerful natural healing properties, so has our mineral kingdom. Each mineral and crystal has a unique vibratory frequency that we can use to help us find balance and harmony. Healing is a restoration, a renewal, a return to an original state of balance and harmony. When we embrace healing, we are initiating a return to our natural state of joy, peace and balance on the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual level. This is the intention that is infused into each healing piece at Strings & Beads.
You have been working on silver and bead jewelry, why did you shift completely to healing jewelry?
This was a sort of calling; something like i was meant to do. I still love and work with Silver & Beaded Jewelry. But yes, the frequency of such collections have reduced tremendously. I believe Jewelry should help embrace and empower the wearer and I see that happening at a larger level with the Healing & Conscious Jewelry.
Tell us about your recent works and your proposed showcase at the By Hand, From The Heart.
We are working with some very exotic gemstones that are otherwise not found in India. We will have some very pretty bracelets and necklaces for everyday wear that reminds the wearer about being positive and consciously help in achieving their goals. We also have a very nice range of new Charms that will be exclusively available at the By Hand, From The Heart . We will also be selling the charms separately this time. And of course, the Crystal Bar is coming back to Chennai with the By Hand, From The Heart makers market. 25 different gemstones will be available over the counter for customers to have a look and choose what they want. The Healing bracelet will be made immediately & will be cleansed and energised. As a healer, I will also be assisting them in choosing the right gemstone.
What is currently inspiring you?
It has to be “Gratitude”. I am a person who works very closely with the Law of Attraction and I see that the more conscious you are about yourself and about what you want- you receive it. I will also have a small pret collection inspired by “gratitude”.
What is life away from your work like?
Being a mother of a 6 year old, life is busy when I am not working 🙂 All of us at home love travelling and exploring new places, so at any given chance we are out and about 🙂
You have participated in an earlier edition of By Hand From The Heart; what was the experience and what have you observed ?
I have participated at many events in Chennai and other cities, but what the By Hand, From The Heart brings is something extraordinary. Undoubtedly the best event in Chennai. There is a lot of respect that an artist or designer gets at the show, from all quarters. Its very exciting to be here always. Having a long association of 3 years with the event, the By Hand, From The Heart team and the very many participants of this show are like Family to me. I love being here and its always such an eventful one !
Chennai – your association with this city. Your observation of the Chennai’s shopper.
I have been born and raised in Chennai. and I love this city to bits. Having lived in many countries,my heart and Soul still beats for this city. The shopper in Chennai is very different from other metros. They appreciate art & artists like no other city. They are cautious with their money but will not bargain when they see real talent and art.
What’s up next for you?
We are headed to a lot of interesting Healing & Yoga Festivals this year 🙂
