Priyanjoli Basu, Founder & Lead Designer
Priyanjoli Basu was born in Kolkata into a family of empowered women who are passionate about heritage textile. At an early age, she developed a deep interest in textile which led her to work with the Crafts Council of Bengal to revive forgotten weaves. In 2009, she attended the London College of Fashion to hone her interest and returned to establish the brand Priyanjoli in 2012.
Priyanjoli The Label:
Priyanjoli is a niche clothing label that celebrates both Indian handloom and the modern Indian woman. Our designs reflect the changing sensibility of the Indian middle class particularly amongst the women who embrace comfort above all else.
With the growing consciousness surrounding an organic and sustainable lifestyle, we continue to work only with hand woven materials and craft each garment by hand. Established in 2012 with a focus on revived handloom sarees and textiles.
In 2013, we established our first studio called ‘Madras Atelier’ from where we were able to expand into garments R&D and production. In May 2015, we began our online journey and established Priyanjoli.com as our own branded e-commerce portal.
